Declaration of Consent for Streamer Usage

Dear participant

we use the web-based software “Streamer” to conduct this event.

In accordance with the regulations of the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Union (GDPR), we would hereby like to inform you about the details of data processing and your rights and ask for your

declaration of consent

Your consent to use the platform is freely given, but we would like to point out that without your consent, participation in the event is not possible.

The responsible controller for the processing of your data is:
Max Planck Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V., Hofgartenstr. 8, 80539 Munich, Germany.

The event is hosted by an institute of the controller:
Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL), Amalienstr. 33, 80799 Munich, Germany, phone +49 89 909311-0, contact [at] mpdl [dot] mpg [dot] de.

The web-based service “Streamer” is an application that enables us to create subtitles, transcripts and translations from audio recordings as well as to perform simultaneous translations.

This gives you the option of having the words (spoken or written during the event) displayed in text form or read out live in the language of your choice. At the same time, the service offers you, among other things, the possibility to add (private) notes to the transcript created in real time during the event or to communicate with other participants via a (private) chat function in the language of your choice. Your spoken and written comments are automatically recorded and can be made available to the other participants in the same way.

The audio recordings required for this are not stored and are deleted immediately after processing.

We offer this service by using a web-based platform of the company SpeechGear, Inc. based in the USA. You can access the provider’s privacy policy at https://streamer.solutions/terms-and-privacy/.

The data processing is mainly carried out via an IT structure in the USA.

We expressly point out that according to the current legal situation and case law, the USA does not qualify as a state that offers you a level of data protection comparable to that in the European Union. It cannot be ruled out that US authorities and services can get access to your data. The possibilities to enforce your fundamental rights are not comparable to those in the European Union. With your consent, you declare that you are aware of these facts and agree with them.

The legal basis for this data processing is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (a), 49 (1) (a) GDPR.

You can withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

In addition, you have the right to access information about the processing of your personal data, the right of rectification of inaccurate personal data, the right to restriction of processing if the accuracy of the data is contested, the right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’) and the right to OBJECT THE PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA (ART. 21 GDPR).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise your rights or if you have any questions about data protection, you can contact the controller (see above for contact details) or the Data Protection Officer of the Max Planck Society at datenschutz [at] mpg [dot] de at any time.
