Thinking about data management requirements before new data are even generated, may be seen as premature. However, time spent at this stage can save lots of time later in the research process: it is easier to think about data organization and documentation beforehand than to reconstruct details that you may no longer readily remember. This section covers aspects that should be considered from the very start, while some of them matter throughout the research process, i.e. open research data.
